Your pooches will be barking mad if they miss the VETPlus Dogs Day Out.

So head along and make their day.

"It's the chance for them to socialise and have fun with other dogs," said organiser Treena Braithwaite.

A walk is planned through the Redwoods and there are dog treats afterwards with a dog agility display, police dog display and fun for the family.

Most owners know their own dog is unique and they have the chance to test that with dog competitions including best fancy dress, best yodel, waggiest tail, owner/dog look-alike competition and musical sit.

The day is raising money for the SPCA. "We usually raise around $3000 a year, and as a major sponsor, VETPlus like to give them a boost at the end of their appeal week," said Ms Braithwaite.

You don't have to own a dog to come along. It's also a day out for the family with bouncy castles, face-painting and icecream.

As well as dog displays there will be pet portraits, live music, a sausage and steak sizzle.

It could also be a chance to find a new addition. The SPCA is having a pooch parade of all dogs it is looking to rehome.

"The SPCA don't get any funding from the government so this is a way to help as all funds raised goes to our local SPCA," said Ms Braithwaite.

Registration is from 9.30am, walk starts at 10am. Dog competitions have a gold coin entry.
