The Armed Offenders Squad was called to Taupo early this afternoon as police executed a search warrant at a house in Tonga St.

Detective Sergeant Herby Ngawhika said the Armed Offenders Squad was brought in because of the nature of the search and to ensure the safety of staff and the community.

He said while the address was already known to police, there was no threat to the public.

The search came after the police received information about drugs, and Mr Ngawhika encouraged the community to report any suspicions to police or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111..

He said a Taupo man in his mid-40s was being spoken to by police.
