There will be plenty of crash, bang, and fiery action at the first meeting of the Rotorua Stock Car Club tonight.

The season kicks off with the annual fireworks show which usually draws crowds of 5000 people.

"It's a great family night where the fireworks are in the middle of the event, so if you have young children or if you are not really into the racing, people can leave early to get the kids to bed," said club publicity officer Sonya Hickey.

More than 20 races will run tonight, including mini stock drivers aged between 12 and 17.

The street and stock cars promise some crash, and the big guns line up with the super saloons and super stocks, said Mrs Hickey.

"It's going to be an exciting season, as we have got bigger numbers racing this year. For some reason a lot of people are coming back to race. It's going to be a brilliant night. We are really looking forward to the season," she said.

Nineteen meetings are scheduled for the club which will have its final race meeting for the summer season at Easter.

What: Ticklepenny Auto Electrical Fireworks Meeting
Where: Paradise Valley Raceway
When: Tonight 7pm-10pm
Tickets: Adults $25, Family $55, Child $10
