Summer fun in the city often means a day at the Aquatic Centre.

If you want to add some flash to the splash, then head down to the centre this Sunday for its Have a Go Day.

It's the chance to try water-based activities such as kayaking, aqua jogging, water polo, and underwater hockey, and if you like them, you might want to take them up on a regular basis.

"Sunday will be an introduction to many water-based sports and recreation activities. We have a desire for everyone in the city to have a life-long and safe association with water as there is so much fun that can be had," said manager David Pearce.

"Our staff enjoy the water month days and activities and we know our customers do also. For those that enjoy a new activity and wish to take it further our staff can guide interested people to relevant groups and clubs."

The day is part of Sport Bay of Plenty's Play in the Bay water month. As well as offering the chance to do sports, you can also simply head down for fun. The centre is only charging pool entry of $3 and all activities are free including access to the spas, tarzan swing, inflatables and sports activities.

"We love that we have generations of locals who pass through here and the role that we are able to play hosting people of all ages.  We do see ourselves as a vital social/community hub for the residents of Rotorua to fulfil their sport, recreation and wellbeing goals," said Mr Pearce.

The Learner Pool is currently closed for refurbishment and staff were looking forward to the improvements when it reopened mid-December, he said.
