Commuters catching the bus on Thursday morning will be rewarded with treats in support of World Car-Free Day.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council staff will be at the bus stops on Willow St in Tauranga, Arawa St in Rotorua and Quay St in Whakatane from 7.30am to 9am on Thursday to reward those using buses with treats - and one lucky person will win an Apple iPad Air.
The council's transport policy manager, Garry Maloney, said it was a great chance for people to try public transport buses while doing their bit to help the environment.
Mr Maloney said using alternate transport such as public buses had other benefits including reducing congestion, stress and improving health and wellbeing.
"While commuting on the bus you can use your mobile device or just take time out."
