A woman has been airlifted out of Murupara after suffering a severe medical event according to a statement by the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter.

The helicopter was sent out at 9.45pm to transport the 48-year-old who needed urgent medical care.

Weather conditions provided obstacles for the chopper crew but the use of night vision goggles allowed the helicopter to get to the patient.

Once stabilised the woman was airlifted to Rotorua hospital in a serious condition.
