Work starts on traffic lights

Roadworks are under way to install lights at the intersection of Te Ngae Rd and Iles Rd.

The roadworks are part of planned work to improve the intersection ahead of the opening of the new Motion Entertainment development.

Holmes Group managing director Ryan Holmes said traffic works along Te Ngae Rd started today and were expected to last until the beginning of November.

Installing traffic lights at the intersection was part of the original resource consent for the development, he said.

Mr Holmes said the roadworks would start with the relocation of the underground services before work started on the widening of the intersection and the installation of the traffic lights.

He said a traffic management plan had been put in place for the roadworks, which were expected to cause some disruptions.

Works won't take place during certain peak hours. He said there would also be work done in the evenings on weekends to minimise disruption.

Mr Holmes said the neighbouring Lynmore Primary School was advising parents to expect delays at the intersection, and to use other routes if possible.

The new road layout would also include a new, safer controlled crossing.
