Police, ambulance and fire crews are currently attending a three-car crash on Ngongotaha Rd, near Hood St.

A police media spokeswoman said emergency services were alerted to the crash at 2.38pm.

She had no information about the number of people involved or the severity of any injuries.

Northern Fire Communications Centre shift manager Carren Larking said the crash involved three cars and nobody was trapped.

"One lane is currently blocked and one person is being treated at the scene."

Reporter Kyra Dawson, who is at the scene, said a woman was lying on the side of the road being held by a member of the public while St John Ambulance officers treated her.

She said ambulance staff then moved the woman onto a stretcher.

Police have set up a road block and traffic is backed up.

A man who was first on the scene said he drove past and saw his aunty's car.

"I pulled over. I was a bit worried and mainly worried about my aunty."

He said his aunty, who he said was in a lot of pain and had a sore neck, had now been taken to Rotorua Hospital.
