Half of an upcoming Rotorua Lakes Council committee meeting will be held behind closed doors to discuss an increase to entry fees at the Polynesian Spa and appointments to the Rotorua Economic Development board.
Councillors will meet tomorrow from 2pm in the council chamber and will publicly discuss the council'sdraft Sustainable Living Strategy and its new council-controlled organisation, Rotorua Economic Development Ltd, and its Statement of Intent.
But, discussions about the council-controlled organisation's board appointments will be held confidentially, as per rules set out in the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, to "protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased natural persons" and to "maintain effective conduct of public affairs through free and frank expression of opinions by or between or to members or officers or employees of any local authority in the course of their duty".
Increases to entry fees at the Polynesian Spa will also be discussed confidentially to "protect information where the making available of the information would be likely unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied or who is the subject of the information".
According to the meeting agenda, the council's Draft Sustainable Living Strategy has been "developed through the sustainable living portfolio led by councillor Janet Wepa, with the Sustainable Living Portfolio Steering Group, staff and the contribution of significant public engagement".
If approved, the strategy will be put forward for "community distribution and discussion".
The council's new council-controlled organisation, Rotorua Economic Development Ltd, has produced a Statement of Intent intended to "publicly state the activities and intentions of a CCO for the year and the objectives to which those activities will contribute".
It will also "provide an opportunity for shareholders to influence the direction of the organisation" and "provide a basis for the accountability of directors to the shareholders for the performance of the organisation".
