Today at 10am the Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was sent into the Raukumara Range about 135km south east of Rotorua by the Rescue Co-ordination Centre to track an emergency locator beacon activation.
A man, who was possum trapping, was located safe and well in the area after an hour's search.
He was unaware his beacon had been activated.
The tracking mission was made extremely difficult due to the man moving through very rough terrain on a quad bike with the beacon emitting a very weak signal.
