Two lanes are now open to traffic after a major slip on State Highway, between Opotiki and Gisborne, has been cleared.
The New Zealand Transport Agency reported contractors cleared a major slip which came down on SH2 at Oponae on Tuesday night.
Contractors would be back at the site tomorrow to install a number of concrete barriers.
Stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions would be in place during the work.
Motorists have been advised to allow for delays of up to 15 minutes and to drive with extra care and attention for their safety and the safety of the workers.
