A severe weather warning is now in place for the Eastern Bay Ranges prompting a warning for people to watch out for rapidly rising streams and rivers and potentially hazardous driving conditions.
The Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group has warned rain is expected throughout the day at in the 12 hours from 9am to 9pm between 70 and 90mm is expected to accumulate, on top of what has already fallen.
It is warning people in the area to watch out for rapidly rising streams and rivers.
It has also warned of hazardous driving conditions with slips and surface flooding possible.
