Interest grows in enlarged mall site

A new spot left vacant in Rotorua Central is already attracting interest from businesses wanting to secure a spot in the popular mall.

The space left vacant by Dick Smith looks set to be combined with the empty space next door, which has been vacant for about eight months, to create a 500sqm spot in Rotorua Central.

Pukeroa Oruawhata Trust client manager Peter Faulkner said the space hadn't yet been tenanted, but they were looking at amalgamating the two smaller spaces to take them to market as a more substantial space.

He said the other premises, left vacant by The Cheesecake Shop when it relocated within the site, was quite small which had been part of the problem with leasing it.

"Generally it has been the size, along with the uncertainty around Dick Smith."

Mr Faulkner said he expected the bigger combined space to be far more attractive. "We have a number of inquiries that are on the go."

The spaces are the only two left in Rotorua Central.
