The Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was called to Whanganui Bay today to transport a man with a cardiac condition to Taupo Hospital.
This follows on from a busy Easter weekend with the helicopter being dispatched on Sunday to Mt Ngauruhoe where a Danish man had fallen and fractured his ankle.
Due to the passing cloud the helicopter crew, assisted by RARO alpine rescue, were able to pick their moments to both insert rescuers, and recover the injured man during brief clearances in the weather.
The man was flown to Rotorua hospital.
On the return flight back to Taupo, the Greenlea helicopter was requested by National Park police to assist in the location and recover of a reportedly injured party of hikers who were lost somewhere around the top of the Whakapapa ski field.
The Greenlea helicopter arrived just in time to located the missing party and ferry them down the mountain to safety.
