Rotorua Lakes councillors have asked staff for an urgent update on the Green Corridor project and the proposed Te Ngae Rd upgrade.

This morning's operations and monitoring committee meeting is now underway with councillors starting the meeting by asking for the updates.

Council staff are currently updating councillors on the city focus refresh project and they will also be updated on the controversial children's health hub project.

The decision to make changes to Rotorua's Green Corridor has caused controversy over the past week following a decision to paint parts of it red or red and white.

Over the weekend, council staff installed four new red and white striped pedestrian crossings along the Green Corridor - on Ranolf and Pukuatua streets, and two on Tutanekai St - due to safety concerns

In today's Rotorua Daily Post it was revealed the decision, which cost about $15,000, was signed off without consultation with councillors or the chief executive.
