The husband of an overseas woman killed in a head-on crash yesterday near Putaruru today remains in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital.

The crash happened at 5.20pm in the South Waikato region.

The woman, who died at the scene, was a passenger in the car and her husband was driving.

Acting Senior Sergeant Turnbull of the Taupo police said the driver was seriously injured and had to be cut free from the rental vehicle.

Two people in the other car were not hurt.
