During Rotorua's annual Bike Festival next month there will be a new event just for "more significant" riders.

The Mountain Bike Rotorua Fundy Hundy, part of the Skyline Sprint Warrior, is a new division for riders who weigh more than 100kg on the day.

The highest placed 100kg plus rider entered in the Warrior Sprint will take home $1 for every kilogram they weigh.

Sprint Warrior organise Adrian Ashmore said there would be random weight testing throughout the day to ensure compliance.

"A good mate, Ra Bhana, and I used to joke about an event that was based on weight divisions to help even the odds for the more 'significant' riders.

"Now, I have the chance to make this a reality and the Mountain Bike Rotorua Fundy Hundy 100kg plus race division is born," Mr Ashmore said.

After being the first event to sell out at the 2014 Bike Festival, the Skyline Sprint Warrior took a break last year as the event team prepared for Crankworx Rotorua.

"It was really missed in 2015 and I was bombarded with messages from past competitors asking for a link to entries.

"With all that interest it had to make an appearance this year.

"It's such a great afternoon on the slopes of Mt Ngongataha for riders and spectators," Mr Ashmore said.

The all-day event will use some of the dramatic and technical downhill trails at the Skyline Gravity Park including Sprint Warrior, Moss Piglet and Hipster.

Also returning is the HUKKIT Sick Trick competition.

"This is a chance for 10 hand-picked competitors to bust out their biggest and baddest tricks for a sweet cash prize.

"In 2014 Cole Lucas took the title with a sick back flip.

"With the ever-evolving nature of MTB tricks who knows what's in store this year," Mr Ashmore said.

There would also be a DJ, prizes and lots of icecream.

He said entries were selling out fast as there was a limit of 200 spots and while it was free to watch, gondola access would cost.

The Skyline Sprint Warrior is on Friday, February 19. For the full festival programme and prices go to www.rotoruabikefestival.com.
