Rotorua police say a violent gang dispute in Western Heights was one of several in the area in recent months.
On Sunday, around 2pm, a dispute between opposing gang members broke out on Brookland Rd. A short time later, a car load of gang members went to an address in Bell Rd where a fight broke out.
The Rotorua Daily Post reported yesterday that police said a person at the address had presented a firearm and a short time later a shot was fired at a person in the house.
However, Rotorua police area commander Inspector Bruce Horne said that while the initial report to police alleged that someone had been shot, police had not found any evidence of that having occurred, or any evidence that a firearm was used during the confrontation.
Mr Horne said it was one of several incidents police had responded to that occurred on private properties in Western Heights and Fordlands, and involved people who were "well known to each other and the Rotorua police".
