Winner will front a series of TV ads to be on screens from next year

The search is on to find a young Rotorua girl to become the face of the city.

Destination Rotorua Marketing is on the search for one lucky girl, aged between 8 and 16, who will be the face of Rotorua in a series of television advertisements airing from next year.

The television advertisements will be the feature of a multi-million dollar advertising campaign run over three years called Famously Rotorua, Destination Rotorua Marketing marketing and communications manager Kelly Stewart said.

"It's a massive opportunity for locals, so we would love to see a huge turnout for registration.

"Who knows what future opportunities lie ahead - there's no harm in just turning up to register and giving it a shot."

Mrs Stewart said Finding The Face registrations would be held on Friday, November 30 from 3pm to 6pm and Saturday, December 1 from 9am to 3pm at the Rotorua Convention Centre.

"What better way to communicate Rotorua's message to New Zealand than to use a local to front the commercial and be the face of Rotorua?"

She said they did not want to give too much away but said the series of adverts would carry a theme showcasing what Rotorua had to offer, which best worked with a school-aged girl.

"We have done TV commercials over the years but not to this scale and we certainly haven't had a domestic campaign of this size," she said.

Mrs Stewart said the $750,000 a year Famously Rotorua campaign started in October with billboards in Auckland and the television adverts would be aired in time for Easter next year.

She said the goal of the campaign was to first attract mainly Auckland visitors to Rotorua then highlight chances to work, live and invest in Rotorua.

Mrs Stewart said applicants for the adverts would need to enjoy being on camera and take pride in their appearance.

She said girls who were already involved in drama, speech competitions at school or kapa haka were ideal, although it was not essential.
