Rotorua musicians will be performing at Raggamuffin 2011 as part of the official Kiwi line-up.
The Kiwi artists performing at Raggamuffin 2011 include Salmonella Dub, Nesian Mystik, 1814 and Sons of Zion. The lead vocalist from Sons of Zion, Rio Panapa, is a former Western Heights High School student and one of the members of 1814, Maihi Pinker, is also a former Rotorua man.
Sons of Zion are a six-piece Auckland-based reggae, rock, metal, dub and roots fusion band. They describe their sound as having a reggae groove with melodic vocals, phat dub base lines and metal-inspired guitar riffs.
They comprise a group of friends - Panapa, Joel Latimer, Marika Hodgson, Tawhiri Littlejohn, Sam Eriwata and Dylan Stewart.
Northland band 1814 were formed in 2004 by Patu Colbert and his sons and have since grown to include five other members - including former Rotorua Lakes High School student Pinker.
Rotorua Raggamuffin-goers will also get to see one of Nesian Mystik's final two performances together. Salmonella Dub have been around since the early 1990s, and not only did they become popular with songs such as Baby I Love Your Ways but also pioneered the Unique Pacific sound that combined reggae with dub, drum n bass and hip hop.
The international stars included in Raggamuffin 2011 line-up are RnB superstar Mary J Blige and reggae stars Jimmy Cliff, Maxi Priest, Sean Paul, The Original Wailers and Ky-Mani Marley.
Tickets for Raggamuffin 2011 the Rotorua International Stadium on February 5 go on sale next Tuesday, October 26.
