Anglers who turned out at first light to fish renowned Rotorua trout streams have been given a big thumbs up by Fish & Game officers.
With Rotorua streams, including Ngongotaha and Waiteti, opening today for summer fishing, anglers from as far afield as Wellington and Whangarei have been casting outtheir lines.
Fish & Game officers ranged the waterways to check licences and chat with anglers.

Officer Anthony van Dorp said it was pleasing that by late morning, all the anglers they had spoken to were "fully compliant" on rules, including carrying a current fishing licence.
