Broadlands Primary children have been wowed with a visit this morning from local hero and All Black Sam Cane and Rugby World Cup trophy.

Cane visited the students at his former primary school this morning, bringing with him the Webb Ellis Cup.

Cane told the Rotorua Daily Post at the school he was really excited to be there.

"I think it will be a day that they will remember and I definitely will too."

Principal Graeme Taylor said it was all part of their history.

"Local family, local boy, following his dreams in life."

Broadlands School Carly Ohia, 10, who is the school's kapa haka leader, was thrilled with the visit.

"I'm just excited to see the cup back in New Zealand."

Cane is to also visit Reporoa College today.

Cane said earlier this week he wanted to take the trophy back home, where he'd received so much support since he was young.
