In 2012 Grenell was the recipient of New Zealand Music Awards Best Folk Album Tui award and has since performed throughout Australia and New Zealand at events such as WOMAD and Rhythm and Alps.
Live music organiser Karin Vincent said it was great to have such well-esteemed folk singers perform in Rotorua.
She described Grenell's music as "uplifting, heart-warming, sincere and often quite funny" and said Rotorua audiences were bound to enjoy it.
She said the best part about folk music was the stories that were told through it.
"Folk music is story telling with music. It's also a way for listeners to escape from the stress of everyday life and relax and listen." she said.
Audiences would be able to bring a plate of food, their own drinks, watch the performance and maybe get a chance to speak to the musicians before they perform, Vincent said.
"It's just going to be a very sweet, informal, chilled out evening."
She said she hoped the event would spark people's interest in folk music.
"We've had events in the past where people have come away, absolutely blown away by the music, and that's been great to see.
