Kerry Pearson's delighted partner has paid $101 for her to lose her dreadlocks as part of the Sulphur City Steam Rollers' Trade Me fundraiser.
Ms Pearson, 25, from Rotorua auctioned off the right to decide whether she should keep her long dreaded locks or get rid of them. She saidher partner seized his chance to see her dreadlock-free for the first time in five years, coming out the winner when bidding closed on Monday night.
"He had a $150 autobid so he got a bargain in the end," Ms Pearson said. "I just hope he doesn't turn around and say actually I liked the dreads more than the 'fro'."
As promised, she will remove the dreadlocks within two weeks however, her partner's decision wasn't popular with everyone.
"He is copping some grief from my friends who wanted them to stay."
Fellow roller derby league member Layla Robinson was delighted to get $51 for her zombie vaccination kit - sold to a buyer from Invercargill who must either be terrified of an invasion or a big supporter of womens' roller derby.
"I knew it would get lots of attention but I didn't even think it would get $20," she said.
Ms Robinson said almost $300 was raised in total by all the club members' auctions and the money would be used to buy fake tattoos featuring the league's logos.
