Although the result shocked her, an 87-year-old woman was happy to shave her hair as a fundraiser for the Heart Foundation.
Edda Poynting had her hair shaved off last Wednesday at Planet of Hair, who cut it for free. She says before the shave she did not really think about it and just thought "it's got to be done".
Edda did not know she would get such a shock once the shave was done, but it does not bother her.
She has some hats which she now dons around town, she says.
"You've got to make fun out of life."
She says it is an important foundation to fundraise for because it is essential to have tests done and find out what causes different heart problems.
Heart problems seem to be something most families deal with, and are worldwide and can affect anybody, she says.
"When I hear about children having heart attacks that's what gets to me."
Edda says it is something her family have experienced first-hand as she has a daughter who has got a peg valve in her heart.
Edda herself also had a bad heart, with angina and arrhythmia, which gives her irregular heartbeats and leaves her a bit breathless. She has also had a history of heart attacks, having one when she was 58 and then another when she was 60 years old.
She says people shave their hair for cancer, and there is just as many heart failures as there is cancer, so she thought she would do so for the Heart Foundation. Edda says she is going to keep her head shaved down until she can get as many donations as possible.
So far she has raised more than $100 which was from just a few people.
She says if people would like to contact her and donate they can do -"the more the merrier".
