Hundreds of Spartan warriors and Grecian goddesses packed into Rotorua's Reading Cinemas for the opening of 300: Rise of an Empire.
More than 200 people turned out to the release of the fantasy action film, the sequel to the popular film 300, on Thursday night.
Cinema duty manager Sam Bryantsaid he was thrilled most people had dressed up.
"The majority of people came dressed up. There was some really impressive costumes, warriors, goddesses, people with swords and helmets, it was great to see," he said. "I think the staff really enjoyed dressing up too. It was a lot of fun for them and a huge success."
The cinema was decorated and prizes were handed out to those in the best costumes.
300: Rise of an Empire is the sequel to the 2007 film, taking place before, during and after its events. Mr Bryant said the feedback he had received about the movie had been positive. The film will be screening at Reading Cinemas for the next month.
