The National Smokefree Pacifica Beats Competition in Rotorua on Saturday is set to attract a full house at the Rotorua Civic Theatre.
There will also be special guest performances from J Williams, B S Crew and 2009 winners Babylon Riddim.
The nationwide event is a music competition that encourages young people to
create original songs. It will include 40 participants making up six top teams from around the nation.
Top prizes will be a $10,000 grant for a NZ On Air Song and Music recording and a $3000 MusicWorks voucher.
No local talent will take part in the competition but spokeswoman Elena Lome said the event had still received a lot of support from the local youth community. It would be the first time the event was taking place in Rotorua.
"We have received a lot of support from locals and have also arranged local tour guides who will take us around the city," she said.
Other prizes include the APRA Best Song, the Smokefree Mana Wahine, the Smokefree Best Vocals, the MAINZ scholarship for outstanding musicianship, YPT Stage Image and the YPT Native Language Awards.
The event will take place at the Rotorua Civic Centre on Saturday from 7-10pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and students, call 0800 111 999.
