Rotorua residents are being encouraged to dig deep and help local families who are dealing with children with cancer.
On Saturday, the Rotorua Daily Post launched a campaign to help raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation's local branch, which is currently supporting 40 families who have, or havehad, children with cancer.
The foundation supports the families in a range of ways, from helping out with the additional costs that arise from the child needing to travel out of town for treatment to providing ongoing support through scholarships to help with extra tuition. Then there is the support for families where the foundation organises special events, both for the children and their siblings, as well as events especially for the parents to help them with what they are going through.
It caters for families right from diagnosis, through treatment and the side effects, and even continues to help families who have lost a child to cancer.
The work they do is funded solely by fundraising and all the money raised through the Rotorua Daily Post appeal will go to the Lakes branch to help our local families.
