Yeah Nah: Six60's time has come

If you don't know who Six60 is you must have been living under a rock for the past year.

The Kiwi band, whose music I struggle to lump into one type of genre, infuses roots, drum and bass with a splash of reggae and dubstep and you can hear the Tiki Taane influence.

Whatever they're doing, they're doing it right because people love them.

Six60 - named after their address in Dunedin - provides us with a perfect combination of music, vocals, beats and talent and they brought it all together when they performed before a sold-out crowd at an R18 gig at Brewers Bar, Mount Maunganui on January 4. This was my first time seeing these guys live (after previously trying to get tickets too late in other centres) and I loved every moment of it.

The crowd loved them. The music and performance was gold. There wasn't anyone in the audience who didn't look like they enjoyed themselves. Something else that stood out to me was the age group of the fans - I saw everyone from 18 to 50 plus there all for the same reason ... to enjoy quality music from a band that is owning the Kiwi music scene at the moment.

They've been around for years and their popularity has been growing but 2011 has definitely been their year - they released their self-titled debut album, which was produced by Tiki Taane and Six60, and I don't know anyone who has it that doesn't love it.

I can't wait for my next Six60 gig.
