In the last year there have been at least three movies based around the concept of casual sex involving two friends ... bed friends, friends with benefits, booty calls or whatever you like to call the situation.
Basically, this is when two friends have casual sex with no strings attached, without being emotionally involved and without any kind of commitment.
The situation has become the main topic of at least three Hollywood movies in the last year or so - Friends With Benefits starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake, No Strings Attached starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman and Love and Other Drugs starring Jake Gyllenhall and Anne Hathaway.
Personally, I think Kunis and Timberlake have done the portrayal of sex rather than love, the best. While the men in the other films seem fitting for the roles, no matter how hard they try Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman seem a little too innocent ... Kunis on the other hand is like a feisty little sex-kitten.
Given the popularity of the Friends With Benefits (or FWB as some call it) topic in the movies, it makes me think this is a relationship status that many are taking part in and is one extremely common among the younger generation - the ones who live on their cellphones or have a Facebook page that is used regularly but not publicly.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit. You only have to head to a bar or club to witness strangers grinding up on one another, hooking up and then leaving together. The TV stars we watch today - including the Jersey Shore and Geordie Shore crews - are all about getting drunk and hooking up with random guys and girls.
Let's just hope they - the famous and non-famous - are all being safe.
However, unlike the movies, I highly doubt the FWB relationship that the mere mortals take part in ends the same way as it does in Hollywood when the beautiful people fall in love and live happily ever after.
