Whitewater rafting on Tarawera River beckons

Kawerau's Seriously Social Rafting Competition will offer an opportunity for whitewater rafting this Saturday.

Hundreds of people of all abilities have experienced this fun day of social raft races on the Tarawera River.

Whitewater Kawerau is really easy to find - all you need to do is park up at Firmin Field and stroll to the start lines only seconds away.

The competition is open to a maximum of 16 teams with six members per team.

Crew members can be of mixed genders and the age minimum is 13 years.

The fun event offers a great end-of-year work outing just before the silly season begins.

A special entry rate is available for all college-age teams. The grand social rafting champions receive the accolade of having their name engraved on the Seriously Social Rafting Trophy. There are also loads of top-quality spot prizes up for grabs, and there is one top spot prize for a lucky team to enjoy a Kaituna raft trip, valued at more than $600.

The Kaituna River offers whitewater junkies the highest commercially operated rafting waterfall in the southern hemisphere - the seven-metre drop that is Okere Falls.
