6 October

Hi-Tec Rotorua Ekiden

The Hi-Tec Rotorua Ekiden Relay will be run around the roads encircling beautiful Lake Rotorua. An internationally recognised event, the Ekiden relay is run over the marathon distance of 42.2km and consists of teams of six competitors who wear a traditional Japanese tasuki sash instead of carrying a baton.

The Classic Hits Acoustic Church Tour - Anika, Boh & Hollie

This year's 2012 Classic Hits Acoustic Church Tour presents an exciting collaboration of three of New Zealand's most talented and versatile female singer/ songwriters - Anika Moa, Boh Runga and Hollie Smith - together in concert for the first time.

The Imperial Russian Ballet presents Swan Lake


The Imperial Russian Ballet Company will perform during their visit to Rotorua, Swan Lake, the most loved classical ballet of all. Presented in three acts, it follows the original storyline with the happy ending decreed by Stalin's Soviet rule in the 1930s, though subtle revisions and variations have been introduced.

New Zealand's toughest mountain bike marathon - 100km in one day. Raced on the best mountain bike trails in the Southern Hemisphere, with over 70 per cent on dedicated single track, this is the mother of them all - three distances, four events, multiple categories. Ride as an individual or as part of a team - the Magellan Whaka 100 has something for all abilities and ages.

Dragon 40th Anniversary Tour

Since their formation in the early 70s, Dragon have infused the hearts and consciousness of generations of New Zealanders and Australians with their raft of infectious hit songs April Sun in Cuba, Are You Old Enough?, Still in Love With You, Rain, Young Years, Cry and Dreams of Ordinary Men.

Ibis Bike the Lake

Be a part of this awesome event now in its ninth year. The Hotel Ibis Bike the Lake Rotorua is a scenic, yet challenging ride around Lake Rotorua. The individual event comprises one lap of the lake (42km) for novice and recreational riders, or two laps for advanced riders. There is also a secondary school team competition for junior and senior riders (individual and teams of four).

RAW Dance Co infuses tap dance with other genres; it's an urban style that's sexy, exciting and full of surprises. The athleticism, ingenuity and charisma of the dancers will have you jumping and whooping. With fabulous live music, from funk to house to Latin, and the amazing sounds of resident MC and beatboxer ''Dr Rhythm''.

Off the Wall: World of WearableArt

For the first time in more than a decade World Of WearableArt (WOW®) is touring a selection of the very best costumes from their historic collection, in the exhibition Off the Wall: World of WearableArt. Wellington's 3D Creative, in conjunction with the WOW® team, has created an interactive show to showcase the 30 garments chosen for the show. Selecting the garments was a collaborative process between WOW® founder Suzie Moncrieff and Sir Richard Taylor from Weta Workshop. Each garment will have a story about it which relates to the design, creativity and innovation required to produce wearable art to a successful competition standard.
