Sandwich-board advertising has been revolutionised. There's krumping, popping and sweating as an enthusiastic McDonald's employee wields a bright red sign advertising discounted burgers.
His name is Paora Pohatu, but over the past few months the Hastings local has taken on a new identity - the $3 Big Mac
Guy, or BMG - and he's energetically danced his way into the cityscape as a celebrity in his own right.
"Even when I'm not working, I always get spotted," the 29-year-old said. "I get that look of 'oh, it's that dancing Big Mac Guy, it's BMG'.
"Let me tell you a story. I go across the road and they give me an extra piece of fish or two, and the other night I went to the Cru Bar and he gave me a free drink."
But a celebrity isn't a celebrity until they have an online presence and the BMG is no different - his Facebook page, featuring a specially designed BMG logo, has already clocked up more than 800 "likes" in its short lifespan.
