The Checks to play Rotorua gig

Rotorua bar owner Reg Hennessy is bringing The Checks to town to liven up your Saturday night.

The Auckland rock band will be playing at The Shed, on Amohau St, on November 19.

Mr Hennessy said bands were keen to come back to Rotorua and he was just as keen to host them.

"We want to bring good entertainment to Rotorua."

Although the city had "dropped off the radar" as a destination in recent years, shows at The Shed had been well-received, he said.

The plan was to bring at least one band in a month.

Mr Hennessy was making an effort to bring in quality New Zealand acts, he said. "Our New Zealand bands are as good as anyone." The Checks are busy promoting their new album, Deadly Summer Sway.

The band, along with Shihad, opened for AC/DC when they toured last year, with ticket sales of more than 100,000.
