Tiny Ruins' third album Olympic Girls will be released on February 1.

The announcement this week was accompanied by the release of the title track and video directed by Charlotte Evans.

The song, showcasing Hollie Fullbrook's amazing voice, has an impatient energy, matching the track's theme of call for change. "We were only inches away, still have a long, long way to go."

Tiny Ruins are on tour this week in the South Island, and are playing Galatos in Auckland on November 1 and Wellington's San Fran on November 3.

Kiwi artist Thomston, aka Thomas Stoneman, says he's embracing the "cathartic and transformational nature of songwriting" with his new song The Heights.

Thomston said his first record, 2016's Topograph, "sounded like letting yourself wallow in self-pity" but The Heights "is just as much about ambition, fearlessness and strength as it is about self-doubt, anxiety, depression and the fear of failure".

The new single is the follow-up to Acid Rain, which amassed 4 million streams in just months.

Alae have been named as support for Callum Scott's debut Auckland performance next Tuesday.

The up-and-comers will also release their debut album Henry Street next week, featuring tracks including All Gived Up, Too Strung Up and Stone Cold, which have helped the band break all sorts of NZ streaming records for local independent artists.

Aucklanders Openside are giving away copies of their new comic book at this weekend's Armageddon Expo.

The quartet, who opened for Panic! At The Disco at Spark Arena this week, have a new three-track EP out this week, Episode One: Character Flaws, accompanied by a video for the single Character Flaws.

"Character Flaws is an anthem for the insecure," said singer Possum Plows.

"When you're sick of people trying to reassure you that things will get better and you just need to find the fun in wallowing in your self-pity for a while."

Openside and regular video collaborator Shae Sterling shot the clip in Guangzhou in China.

Dutch-New Zealand trio My Baby have released their fourth album Mounaiki.

The music features elements of gospel and blues, Moroccan gnawa, Indian raga and a touch of EDM.

My Baby have been spreading their psychedelic blues-trance rave all over the world since 2012, performing at festivals including Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Sziget, Fusion and more.
