Shapeshifter

Shapeshifter

Shapeshifter have a new album on the way, with first single Stars released to give you a taster.

Built on what sounds like 80s video game electronica, the song builds up the bass, synth and beats to soar sky high with a sound that's sure to resonate come the summer months.

The album will be the follow-up to 2013's Delta.

Visit shapeshifter.co.nz to hear the song and remix your own version.

Another follow-up - and this one has been a long time coming - is The Avalanches' second album, Wildflower.

It's been 16 years since the album Since I Left You and its catchy title track.

The band are said to have been working on the follow-up since 2005.

Two singles have been released - Frank Sinatra and Subways, which samples the 1980s track of the same name and Graham Bonnet's version of the Bee Gees' Warm Ride.

Contributors to Wildflower include Toro y Moi, Biz Markie, Warren Ellis, Father John Misty and Camp Lo.

A judge on New Zealand's Got Talent once told him he had a huge recording career ahead of him, now Maala, aka Evan Sinton, is making his way towards that dream with the release this week of his debut album Composure.

His debut EP, which features the singles Touch and In The Air, had more than 3 million streams.

Maala says the new album is a natural evolution from the EP: "The album feels like a progression - it'll feel familiar to some extent. I feel like I'm trying new things out."

Revisit a classic
Faith No More's fourth album Angel Dust had a tough act to follow, their breakthrough hit The Real Thing.

The 1992 release saw the rockers develop their sound in a variety of ways, evident on tracks like the silky smooth Commodores cover Easy and the slow-burning lounge-country rocker RV.

And while Easy may be the highlight of the album for many, the singles Midlife Crisis, A Small Victory and Everything's Ruined are all 90s rock classics.

Meanwhile, the inclusion of a cover of John Barry's Midnight Cowboy theme is inspired.
