Nothing goes hand in hand with summer like an ice cream.
Lady Jane's Ice Cream Parlour, on the corner of Tutanekai St and Whakaue St, is an essential icon according to our readers, who nominated it as one of Rotorua's Essential 50.
There are more than 50 flavours at theparlour, which also sells soft serve ice cream and offers customers a wide variety of cone types and sizes.
"Because we've been here for so long we're an attraction, something to do rather than just somewhere to eat," said manager Rebecca Winstanley.
She said they worked longer hours in summer but they had regular customers who visited over winter and lots of tourists, too. Miss Winstanley's favourite flavour was licorice allsorts, but she said hokey pokey was a hit with visitors.
"Hokey pokey is the traditional Kiwi ice cream, Goody Goody Gum Drops and cookies and cream are also hits with our customers."
The Rotorua Daily Post Essential 50 lists the city's must-see, must-do and must-try activities and experiences. We'll be highlighting one every day over summer.
