Rotorua people will have the opportunity to try out rock climbing when the Rotorua Climbing Club and The Wall have an open day today.
"We want to let people come down and have a go, come down and see what they think of it," said organiser Eric Atkin.
He said expert climberswould be there to talk to visitors and information pamphlets would be available.
Mr Atkin said climbing had lots of benefits and could build mental as well as physical strength.
"The big thing is confidence. There's that height fear factor."
He said it was also a great way to keep fit and anyone aged 8 and over could learn to rock climb.
Rotorua Climbing Club (RCC) is affiliated with Climbing New Zealand and members of the club compete in regional and national competitions. At the recent national championships in Auckland, members from RCC won first, second and third place in the under-16 category.
The club also organises trips to outdoor climbing walls around the region.
People can also become members at The Wall, where they can climb all year round.
The open day will run from 10am until 4pm at The Wall, 1140 Hinemoa St, Rotorua.
Entry is by gold coin donation.
