With auditions on this week, Rotorua's New Zealand's Next Top Model contestants from last year have some tips for girls wanting to try out.
Amelia Gough made it through to episode five of the last series and says personality and confidence are important - so don't be shy.
"They
want people who have personality," she says. "You don't have a shot if you  haven't got a personality."
Miss Gough says if the judges don't find you interesting,  people won't want to watch you on TV.
"Sometimes looks can get you places, but not in this competition ... personality is more important. You have to have the whole package, especially in modelling."
It is not all about being pretty.
"With high-fashion modelling you don't necessarily have to be pretty. Being intriguing, being different-looking is good, too."
Miss Gough says she believes she got through because she was memorable.
"I remember the producer, Anna, said she wouldn't forget me."
In the actual audition, Miss Gough says contestants will probably meet one of the judges from the show -  Sara Tetro, Chris Sisarich or Colin Mathura-Jeffree - and two other people involved in the show.
Potential models will then have to talk about why they want to be a model.
Those who make it through to the next stage will be sent into another room where they will meet the show's producer. At that point they should expect to have to talk on camera.
"If you're camera-shy, don't audition," Miss Gough says.
Before the audition, all contestants are measured for their height, bust, waist and hips.
The minimum height to be eligible is 170cm, but Miss Gough says there are no other measurement restrictions.
She says girls considering auditioning should "just do it" and not be nervous.
"Honestly, just give it a shot - it's a once-in-a-year opportunity."
After her stint on the popular New Zealand show, Miss Gough is now studying make-up artistry in Auckland.
She says through Top Model she met lots of people in the make-up industry, which has helped her follow her dream.
Rotorua's Jamie Himiona also featured in last year's New Zealand series of Top Model, appearing on the show for three episodes.
She says confidence is the key to doing well in auditions.
"You have to be really self-assured and confident."
Miss Himiona also has some tips about what potential models should wear to the show auditions - something that shows off your figure.
She suggests avoiding loose-fitting clothing and to wear something  such as a tight  T-shirt and jeans.
