Overseas specialists have gathered in Rotorua for a wood product event at Waiariki Institute of Technology.
Waiariki's Waipa Campus is hosting the event, which is the first Engineering Wood Products Association of Australia workshop to be held in New Zealand.
This year, 25 industry and educational specialists from Papua NewGuinea, Australia and New Zealand are attending, with practical workshops on offer until the event finishes tomorrow.
The workshop is held every two years and has been running since the 1960s. It features an opportunity to see experts involved in the production of laminated veneer lumber (LVL), an engineered wood product made out of multiple layers of thin wood, Waiariki Forestry Primary Industries School acting director John Kelly said.
"These guys are the gurus of LVL and it's quite a coup for us to host the first New Zealand-held workshop," he said.
