Poet, playwright and novelist Vivienne Plumb will visit Taupo for National Poetry Day tomorrow.
Plumb is the author of poetry collections such as Crumple, and The Cheese and Onion Sandwich, and plays including The Cape and Love Knots.
She is the third distinguished New Zealand poet to visit Taupo'spoetry and literary society Live Poets in as many years. Live Poets, in association with the Booksellers' Council of New Zealand, are bringing her to share her poetry, prose and creative wit with Taupo's literary people.
Live Poets is planning four events over tomorrow and Saturday as part of National Poetry Day celebrations. First up, the society will hold its annual reading at the NZ Post Shop on Horomatangi St tomorrow from 12pm until 2pm. Later, there will be an intimate audience with Plumb at Price's bookshop on Tongariro St from 5pm to 6.30pm. This will be a chance to meet Plumb, hear her perform and have your newest poetry collection signed.
A poets' dinner will be held the same day from 7pm.
The dinner is for Live Poets members but the sub is only $5, so if you want to enjoy dinner with Plumb, it's easy and cheap to become a member.
On Saturday, Plumb will give a public lecture and reading in the Michael King Room at the Taupo Library on Story Place from 9am until 11am when she will talk about plays, poetry and prose as well as giving insights into her creative journey.
Live Poets runs a reading each month at Taupo Museum, a children's event every holidays, regular readings in Taupo's retirement communities, and other events.
