Nelson brother and sister duo Georgia and Caleb Notts, aka Broods made quite a splash with their debut album Evergreen, back in 2014.
Since then they've experienced a hectic touring schedule, along with a move to Los Angeles, yet have managed to fit in sessions for their second album.
Touchwood when you say it, but Broods are garnering Lorde and Marlon Williams-like attention in the States, while still managing to fit in their current New Zealand tour.
Conscious is a collaborative enterprise, with Joel Little in producer role, inventive and supportive beats from big brother Caleb, and right where it ought to be, Georgia's voice centre-stage.
It's a smart move, giving this unfettered soundscape over to a voice that pushes it's abilities to the limit, and delivering perfectly lyrics that have been crafted with obvious care.
The final track on the album is the title Conscious and it's a masterly tour-de-force that makes a huge statement about the sound that Broods can now deliver.
But there's light and shade throughout the set of thirteen songs, from the already unmistakeable opener Free to my own favourite All of your Glory.
Lyrically Conscious is a step up from Broods debut album, which I guess is only natural now that they have a growing maturity of life experiences.
