Men in tights is the dance show for all

The clue is in their name Les Ballet Eloelle - the last word pronounced LOL - and you know that the show Men In Tutus is going to be a fun night out.

New York-based Les Ballet Eloelle will be touring the country this month and will bring their show to Rotorua on July 18, at the Rotorua Civic Theatre.

Director/lead dancer Victor Trevino said the show was about "having a laugh, a good time and seeing some great dancing".

The show was for everyone - from those who wanted to be entertained to people who knew their ballet and "the difference between a pirouette and jette".

He added it was not a drag show but a way for them to make people laugh through dance.

Mr Trevino said that dancing the female part provided the ultimate challenge for male dancers and usually the best roles in ballets are reserved for female dancers.

He said the dancing en pointe - performing steps while on the tips of the toes - was a huge challenge.

It was normally a skill mastered only by ballerinas.

The dancers come from the best ballet companies in the world including the New York Ballet, The American Ballet Theatre and the prestigious Royal Ballet.

Mr Trevino's choreography has received glowing worldwide reviews. The group previously toured New Zealand in 2007.
