Gaming flick proves hot ticket

There's more to gaming than shoot 'em ups, car chases and Super Mario Bros, so much so the Rotorua Museum is screening a movie that delves further behind the scenes.

In conjunction with the exhibition Arcade - Homegrown Video Games, the museum is screening award-winning film Indie Game: The Movie tomorrow evening.

There are only a handful of tickets left for the one-night only event.

Museum programme co-ordinator Naiomi Murgatroyd said there had been wide interest in the film.

"We've done screenings of documentaries which are more aimed at adults and those in the arts scene but this is the first that's appealed to the youth market.

"If the exhibition fits and there's a cool film it's something we'll look at."

She said families had booked tickets for the film, which won an award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, as well as teenage boys and girls.

"It's surprised me how many younger teenagers are interested in seeing it," Ms Murgatroyd said.

Indie Game screens tomorrow at 5.30pm.

Tickets cost $5 per person and include popcorn. They are available from the Rotorua Museum.
