With the school holidays upon us, here are some of Frugal Kiwi Mum's favorite holiday activities:
Homemade finger paints
3 tbs sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups water
1/2 cup corn starch
Combine ingredients in a saucepan and warm until it thickens. Add food colouring to create desired coloursand cool. Store in empty jam jars in the fridge for repeated use.
Salt Dough
1 cup salt
1 cup plain flour
Half a cup of warm water
Mix together into a large bowl and knead until smooth and stretchy. If it is still too sticky add a bit more flour, if too dry and crumbly then add a tiny touch more water. A little bit of trial and error is all that is needed and it really is so easy! This recipe will air dry but you can bake it for speedier drying.
Next time your in Pak'n'save, pick up a few extra boxes. Sit your children down with some felt tips, all those loose stickers in the top drawer, flour and water paste and some old magazines. You'll be amazed at how long this will keep them quiet for and it can be used as a 'bedroom tidying aid' once it is finished!
