Rotorua songstress Elizabeth Marvelly is set to sing the New Zealand national anthem for the Warriors when they take on Manly Sea Eagles in the NRL grand final this weekend.
Marvelly landed the gig after comments on social networking website Twitter which said she should be the one to singthe anthem. Australian radio announcers Grill Team posted on Twitter: "Sunday's Kiwi national anthem - got a suggestion for who should be the singer? #NRL are looking to book a singer today/tomorrow". Marvelly replied with: "@NZ - Warriors I'd love to sing for you guys! Fingers crossed! So stoked for you guys! Go hard!"
She took to Twitter again yesterday afternoon when news broke that she would be singing the national anthem: "Yup I'm so excited!Thanks! Can't wait to see the boys play their hearts out! #WarriorNation #Champions!".
Marvelly said it would be an honour to sing for the New Zealand Warriors and represent her country.
"I feel hugely honoured to be asked by the Warriors to sing for them on Sunday. The fire and the passion of the team and all of their supporters is incredibly inspiring and I'll do my best to sing it out loud for them."
