Legendary R&B group New Edition is heading for Rotorua - three years after band member Bobby Brown cancelled his Rotorua gig due to poor ticket sales.
Members of the popular 1980s and 1990s group are coming to New Zealand for the 2010 Heads of State Tour and Rotorua is included inthe schedule.
Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant, all original members, will perform at the Sportsdrome on December 16.
The only other New Zealand locations on their Heads of State tour are Wellington and Auckland.
Events & Venues general manager Peter McLeod said the the trio would be performing all their New Edition classics, their solo hits and signature dance moves at the Rotorua gig.
"New Edition were one of the most successful R&B groups of their era, leading the boy band movement of the 1980s and 1990s," Mr McLeod said.
New Edition classics include Mr Telephone Man and Cool It Now.
Bobby Brown also had hits with songs such as Every Little Step and My Prerogative, Johnny Gill had hits with My My My, and Cute Sweet Love Addiction while Ralph Tresvant had success with his songs Stone Cold Gentleman and What I Gotta Do?
Mr McLeod said he was thrilled Rotorua had been chosen to present a top international act. "Our city is continuously proving its worth as one of the country's leading centres for entertainment and sports events."
Tickets for New Edition's concert go on sale at Ticketmaster from Friday.
