This is the first in a weekly column from Rotorua dog trainer Nadine Steele:
Today's piece is designed to let you know a little about myself.
I am your local Dog Guru Trainer and provide both class training and private consultations within the Rotorua District as part of thenationwide Dog Guru Dog Training and Behaviour Consultant Services.
In addition to training I have also completed studies in Dog Nutrition and Animal Care Science.
This column is designed to provide our community education in all aspects of dog ownership and or interaction to avoid further dog attack statistics within our region by providing practical solutions to everyday problems.
This is an achievable goal for us all so I invite readers to submit training or behaviour questions to me to be published and answered in the upcoming week's columns which set's the topic for the week's advice I offer.
My passion is dog safety education for children as well as educating owners about the breed traits of their chosen companion. I believe that if as owners we are able to meet the needs of both the instinct and personality of our dogs we have succeeded in creating an unbreakable bond.
Currently, I own and breed border terriers which I conformation breed show as well as having a large labrador mixed breed male, two young boys and a tolerant husband. In the past, boxers and boston terriers have also shared my home.
I have been fortunate to deal with many breeds and try my hand at many varied training techniques and purposes during my life so am in the position to be able to now offer empathy in almost all "really, did you, why'' moments we experience as dog owners.
