Dear Colleen, I don't know why I'm sending this email, but my heart is telling me to send it to you.
I am a student in Rotorua city after coming here from India.
But I can't find a job anywhere. As a result I am very tense now. Every dayI cry very much. I am a registered nurse in India and have one year's experience in a multispeciality hospital and am now doing a degree in nursing.
I do not know what to do as I am new to this country and there is no one here to help me. With great hope I write to seek some advice.
I presume you're studying nursing at Waiariki. If so the first thing you should do is talk to your lecturer or tutor. They have a "duty of care" for their students and will be familiar with the types of issues you are having. Waiariki also has a student health centre that includes counselling services.
Feeling isolated and lonely is horrible and it is important that you talk to someone about what you are going through to avoid you becoming depressed or unwell.
As a nurse you are trained in caring for others, now it is time to care for yourself. Make sure you are eating and sleeping well, and get a little exercise.
All this will help you to cope with the very real problems you are experiencing, but most of all make use of the counselling services, talking to someone really does help.
