Local chef Annie Lingman wants to help people cook healthy, good value meals with her new cooking classes.
Aunty Annie's Cooking classes launched recently, with the motto "Learn how to cook! You're going to be eating for the rest of your life''.
Annie wants to show people how to cookon a budget and how to cook out of the pantry.
"I know a lot of people who can't cook basic food.''
Annie says she has had the idea in her head for about two years and has now gone ahead with it. "I love to cook.''.
She is a qualified and experienced chef and has worked at resorts, restaurants and bakeries around Rotorua.
She has also catered weddings, birthdays and last year's 100-year Ngongotaha celebration.
Annie's beginners' cooking class covers how to cook soup, scones, quiches, mince pies, salads, pasta and baking.
Annie demonstrates how to cook the item first, then the attendees make the item.
There is also an advanced cooking class, and there will soon be student cooking, Indian cooking, Italian and other classes available. "There's going to be so much stuff coming up.''
She says the classes are for any age, from children to any age adult.
She will also give people tips on how to shop smartly at the supermarket in order to save money.
Annie is also holding a school holiday programme cooking class that is on next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11am to 1.30pm.
